95th Anniversary of 29 October Republic Day Ball

Republic Ball is organised to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey to be held at the Westin Hotel on 27th of October, 2018. Grup Ekol and Newim Mimtas from Sydney were booked for live music entertainment. The organising Committee includes Pelin Eren, Hakan Paker, Songul Gozuacik, Nihal Iscel, Gulden Eren and Tuna Dincer. The poster is again designed by Keziban Barutcu. Three sponsorships were received from Levent’s Painting, Altintas Painting and WA Sand.

Manti Night

The Committee has organised a Manti Night on 17th of March at the Manning Community Hall attended by 93 people. The organising Committee included Tuna Dincer, Gulten Eren and Sebahat Altintas. Manti was prepared by by Mualla, Burcu and Emre Erkut. Group of community members, too many to name here served the food and worked tirelessly on the night and made the night a very special event. The sound system purchased via the grant received year before was used at this event.

Harmony Month Activities

Due to TACH’s funding application for the Bulgur for WA project was unsuccessful, the Committee decided to take part in activities organised by other organisations.

The first event was a Turkish Folkdance performance at the Bannister Creek Primary School’s Harmony day event on 23rd February 2018

The second event was the presentation of Tea in Turkish Culture at the BLIAWA Buddhist Association’s Harmony day event on 18th of March 2018. Japanese, Russian, Chinese and Indian community organisations also presented tea in their cultures.

The third Harmony Day event was the Asuk and Masuk show at the Koondana Primary School on 23rd of March, 2018 presented by Filiz Ulusoy and Nursen Altintas. We have been invited by Sevil Karakurt who teaches at this school.

Women's Group Meeting

First women’s group meeting was held in August and total of nine meetings occurred at the Victoria Park Arts Center which charged us at a heavily reduced fee due to long term association with Nihal Iscel. The fee of $5 per person as charged to cover cost and attendance changed between 6 and 18. Women’s group as self- funding a made a small profit. Three invited speakers presented topics of interest including Prof Gul Ozaygen: Skin Cancer protection and skin health, Sonya Shultz : Breast Cancer screening and Jeremy Silvester : Domestic Violence
